Populr is an easy to use SINGLE web page creation tool. This tool is intended to create simple, quick pages that still look good. Sign up using your email, Facebook, or Google to begin. Choose from different theme options or begin with a blank page to create your own web page. Edit easily with drop-down boxes for changing colors, fonts, and more. View short video tutorials each step of the way explaining available features. Collaborate with others by enabling the collaboration link. Enable the clone link for others to duplicate your page and create their own version. The free version of the site allows unlimited published pages, video recording, and a 12mb document limit. Note: There are examples from the general public available from the home page. Although none seems inappropriate at this time, you might want to preview before sharing with students.

In the Classroom

Use this site for students to post simple projects such as stories, poems, and art projects. This is a simple tool to create individual portfolios, too. In lower grades, create a page together as a class on a projector or whiteboard. Collect a master list of the links to student pages on your classroom website, wiki, or blog for easy access. If students create pages, be sure to check with your district's policy on student use of email as well as publishing of student work. You may want to use a single class account so you have control. Create websites for many projects: back to school introductions, any subject/topic, research projects, book reports... the possibilities go on and on! Create a handy page to share resources and information during field trips or outside activities. If you assign gifted students (age 13+) to do alternate projects beyond the regular curriculum, this may be one of the tools they like to use. You could use a teacher account so students do not have to create a login. This would also be a useful tool for middle and high school gifted students to create an online portfolio. Start by having them create a real world presence to publish links and images of their best work, especially projects that take on a life of their own long after the assignment ends. This is for students to present their best face to the public. Encourage them to take ownership of it.

Soundcite is a free tool that embeds audio directly into portions of text for use on your blog or website. Use Soundcite to bring emotion or context to a story through the use of a real audio file, be sure to check out the examples for ideas. Follow the advice on the site to add short audio clips after uploading to your server. Before starting your Soundcite project, take the time to read and understand different options for uploading audio to blog providers such as Word Press and cautions against the use of Google or DropBox.

In the Classroom

Combine audio with text to bring life to student work. Share some examples with students before asking them to create Soundcite files. If you have some tech-savvy students, share this site with them before sharing with your whole class. Allow the tech-savvy students to create some examples and tutorials for all to use. Have these students transform classroom technology use and their learning by sharing step-by-step directions using a video explainer tool like Adobe Express Video Maker, reviewed here. Include with student work on their blogs or digital portfolios, or include with any multimedia presentation created using Sway, reviewed here, or Adobe Creative Cloud Express, reviewed here.

Understood is an online collaboration of 15 non-profit organizations with a goal to provide learning resources for students aged 3-20. The site offers thousands of articles, decision guides, quizzes, and more. Also, choose from unique tools such as the Parenting Coach, Tech Finder, and Through Your Child's Eyes (simulations of different learning issues). Use the Parent Toolkit to find personalized resources available by topic, grade, or learning disorder. Videos reside on YouTube. If your district blocks YouTube, the videos may not be viewable.

In the Classroom

Bookmark this site as an excellent tool for finding learning resources for classroom students and sharing with parents. Understood includes several helpful resources for parents and educators on how to discuss and teach about racism, use the search feature to find activities to incorporate into your current units about race and prejudice. Be sure to share a link to the site with parents on your class website or newsletter. Use items found on this site as part of your professional development activities. Organize participant's thoughts and ideas using a mind mapping tool like MindMup, reviewed here. Share websites, articles, and resources related to your topic using a bookmarking tool such as Papaly, reviewed here. Papaly allows you to share resources and add comments making collaboration easy for participants. Expand your learning and collaboration efforts using a tool like Flip, reviewed here. Sway is an easy to use tool for creating professional-looking online presentations including video, images, text, and more.

SchoolAI provides a suite of artificial intelligence (AI)- based tools and resources for K-12 classrooms. In addition, AI features provide feedback and allow educators to moderate and manage student use of resources such as the Sidekick assistant. SchoolAI offers many easy-to-create student activities, such as the Historic Figure Chatbot, Book Explorer, Choose Your Own Adventure, and chat-based Tutoring Sessions for any subject. Use the discover feature to choose an activity, then provide the requested information. Most activities include an option to view a preview or try the activity out before being added to Spaces. After adding an activity to your Spaces, it is shared with students using the URL or QR code provided.

In the Classroom

Use SchoolAI to create and share engaging activities with all students and for all subjects. For example, differentiate text easily to fit the abilities of all students, generate a list of engaging activities for any topic, or quickly create a worksheet or multiple choice quiz as a formative assessment. As students engage in chats with historical figures or choose your own adventure activities, ask them to use the information learned as a starting point for additional research. Use Symbaloo, reviewed here or another curation tool to collect and share additional resources with students, such as videos, online articles, and book suggestions. As a final extended learning activity, ask students to share their learning using Sway, reviewed here, Genially, reviewed here, or Adobe Creative Cloud Express, reviewed here to create multimedia presentations. Curipod creates interactive lessons using AI (artificial intelligence) technology. Tasks include features for making word clouds, adding polls, questions, and more. Visit the Discover link to browse through ready-to-use templates or create an account, then copy and edit a lesson using a template or build one in just a few seconds using your prompt and instructions. When creating a new lesson, start with a blank slide or use templates that include a brain break, exit ticket, multiple choice, or complete lesson. The brain break generators include several stress-free tasks, such as Would You Rather questions, and fun writing and drawing prompts. To create new tasks, add a topic and include standards if desired. Another option allows you to import PowerPoint presentations and PDFs when creating new activities. When ready, share lessons with students using the provided QR code or the join code for students to access at curi.live. View statistics in your dashboard, including the number of times played and player results. Free accounts currently include unlimited players, five private Curipods, a shared workspace, and all core features.

In the Classroom

Use Curipod as a starting point for creating lessons and student activities, then modify the content to fit your curriculum and students' abilities and needs. The Brain Break activities are an excellent starting point for using Curipod in your classroom. Select an activity from the Brain Break options, then choose a grade level and follow the prompts to share a short mental break with your students. Copy and paste standards when creating a lesson as a starting point to add content for the lesson. When using any AI technology, verify the information provided is accurate before sharing it with students. Use Curripod as a flipped or blended learning activity, share the join code with students, and ask them to complete the activities within a designated period before reviewing together as a class. Easily modify any template to differentiate instruction for different groups of students. For example, when introducing decimals, provide a basic introduction with vocabulary and instructional content to one group of students but add more challenging content, such as adding decimals for students already familiar with this topic. Coordinate with other teachers to create cross-curricular activities or when planning units together.

Kodu is a software download for creating Windows PC games through a simple programming language. Download Kodu for free from the Microsoft Fuse Lab (there are "Get Kodu" buttons on the home page and the tips page). The software allows you to create and personalize virtual worlds through point and click options. Additional options offer "if this, then that" personalization to add variety to the game. Under Resources find the "Other Resources" and click Video to see "Getting Started" tutorial and "Biginner Videos" that reside on YouTube. If your district blocks YouTube, the videos may not be viewable. A download is also available for Xbox games; however, it is not free.

In the Classroom

Have students work in teams to design and develop content demonstrating an understanding of lessons in any subject area. Begin sharing Kodu with your computer experts who are interested in programming. Allow them to be the leaders in sharing how to use and personalize the program. Enhance their learning by asking them to create game creation tutorial screencasts using Screencast-o-matic, reviewed here, to share with their peers. Use Kodu as part of an after-school computer club. Be sure to take advantage of the resources section of Kodu for tips and tutorials on using the program.

ReClipped allows you to annotate, collect, and share portions of online videos using their Chrome browser extension. Additional features enable adding notes and markers to specific areas of videos. Create your account and download the extension following the site's directions. Collect segments of videos into "Snippets" to save onto boards to share publicly or save as private. Add collaborators to create shared boards.

In the Classroom

Use ReClipped to make sharing portions of videos easier by including only the segments needed. Add notes or questions for students to follow. Create a classroom board to share with students highlighting important information for any topic. Ask students to create their own snippets to share information or back up their point of view. Have tech-savvy students create their own videos and make snippets demonstrating how to use different features of ReClipped. After viewing longer videos, ask students to create snippets of what they consider to be the most critical portions and use the annotation feature to explain their choice.

Content area literacy is the ability to use reading and writing to acquire information in a subject area. It involves general literacy skills, content-specific literacy skills, and prior knowledge of content. This interactive workshop will explore five technology-integrated strategies that will enhance content-area literacy across the curriculum, focusing on supporting the needs of diverse learners to ensure an inclusive and equitable learning environment. As a result of this session, teachers will: 1. Explain the definition and benefits of content area literacy; 2. Evaluate the effectiveness of the five strategies presented for their students' learning needs and goals; and 3. Plan hands-on, engaging activities that will help students develop content area literacy skills. This session is appropriate for teachers at all technology levels.

Use this site to engage students in Writing for Digital Publication, an important part of the Common Core. In social studies or government class have individual students or small groups design magazines for the candidate of their choice. Remember those travel brochures your world language students used to make with glue sticks and scissors? Try this online tool instead. World language students can also create an interactive magazine telling a story in their new language. In science class students can design a booklet to explain cells, life cycles, or any science topic. Instead of a book report, try a digital magazine. Do an author study via a digital magazine. Create a poetry magazine. Have your ESL/ELL students create a bilingual magazine in English AND their native language. Create digital magazines for any subject or topic: explain an event in history, demonstrate different types of animals or habitats. Create an ongoing Calameo magazine of class activities.

Transform your students' web-based research with Scrible. Highlight and annotate web pages and easily save, share, organize, and collaborate on Internet-based research. Scrible Edu integrates with Google Classroom and offers browser bookmarklets for Firefox, Chrome, Safari, and Edge. With the Scrible bookmarklet installed, when you're on a page just click the bookmarklet to launch a menu of bookmarking tools. Access your work right where you left off from editing. Use the option to format your bibliographies as you bookmark. Compile your article clippings into one package. Students may sign up using their academic email address. (If your school's domain name is not recognized as "academic," sign up for the free account and send a "feedback" email explaining that your email address is that of a student.) Student Scrible accounts have double the storage capacity of the standard free account. Educators sign up for the Basic Edition and then click the feedback link to let Scrible know you're an educator. They will set you up with a special edition which includes the same features. In the Classroom

Your students' online research will be efficient and effective with Scrible. Students can take notes on their bookmarks. They only need to bookmark the part of the website they need for their assignment. Students can collaborate with peers on their research. Post articles and documents online for your students to highlight and annotate. Bookmark this tool on your website or blog for your students to access in or outside of the classroom. Use Scrible to annotate professional development articles or to highlight important information for your students. The best part? It will instantly create your bibliography for you!

How many times have we heard students complain during a group project, "But I couldn't get to his or her house to work on it?" Tell them to use Scrible to interact online. The research and conversations created through highlighting and annotating what they read can greatly enhance both their research skills and their online interaction on academic level skills. Or use the site to post and share discussion assignments on specific articles or even parts of articles using the highlighting tool. Find a relevant article to your subject. Highlight the part that you want students to read. (If students are younger, keep it short to reduce the intimidating reality of too much information for kids.) Attach a note with a discussion question for the students. Have them comment on the link in a "class discussion" as an outside assignment. If you are fortunate enough to have all students with computer access in your class and at home, such as in one to one laptop (or BYOD) program schools, you can use this essentially to run your class. Post assignments or post readings. Science teachers can post online interactive labs, and more.

Here the writing teacher will find writing prompts galore and even more! Scrolling down the "Home" page you will find links to all sorts of helpful information and resources. Check it out! "The Daily Ten" (as in 10 minutes a day) are prompts posted weekly, plus, you can see past "Daily Ten" prompts or preview prompts a week in advance. The "Mega Prompt" area gives a more complete scenario for students to write about, and encourages student publishing. Be sure to investigate "Writing Around the World" for topics of the week and publishing student work.

In the Classroom

You could set up a writing center or post the prompts on your website for students to use in many ways. For instance, have a link on your website so parents or guardians can read the prompt, and, as part of the writing process, ask them to review with their student what was written. The writing could be initialed by the parent/guardian when this has been done. For older students you may want a writing center that results in the submission of their writing to the "Writing Around the World" category. Why not create a class writing wiki. Not comfortable with wikis? Have no wiki worries - check out the TeachersFirst's Wiki Walk-Through. Or you could simply project (on your interactive whiteboard or projector) prompts from the "Daily Ten" to use as bell work while you are taking attendance, etc.

Any.do is an online to-do list to manage daily tasks across all devices. Create your account and start adding things you need to do. Choose from today, tomorrow, upcoming, or someday in the Time View format. Click the folder icon to sort lists into work, personal, or a folder you name. Choices include adding a time for tasks, options for reoccurrence, and an alarm reminder. Download the Any.do app to sync tasks seamlessly across any iOs or Android device and your computer.

In the Classroom

Any student might appreciate having an online time management account, but learning support students and disorganized gifted students need one. You may want to model using this online tool to help middle and high school students learn personal organization. Share this site the first week of school to get students started on the right foot! Make a demo account for a mythical student and organize his/her daily schedule together so students can see how it works. Share the steps on your interactive whiteboard or projector. Alternatively, this idea will work with group projects where students need to learn to manage their project time.

Amanda Gorman captured the nation's attention with the recital of her inspiring poem, "The Hill We Climb," during Joe Biden's 2021 inauguration ceremony. Resources include links to a hyperdoc that explores the poem's craft, lessons comparing inaugural poets and poetry, and a black poets video playlist. Bookmark this site as a resource to find many ideas for engaging students in poetry. Use Amanda Gorman's poetry to spark your students' interest in learning about poetry. Start by watching and sharing Gorman's inaugural reading on YouTube. Ask students to share their reactions to the reading using Answer Garden, reviewed here. Post a question to Answer Garden that requires a short student response, such as, "What is the predominant emotion you felt as you watched Amanda Gorman read her poem?" As students add responses, view the word cloud that is created to discuss how poetry is used to deliver emotions. Use a video response tool such as Edpuzzle, reviewed here, to enhance learning by inserting questions and comments within the YouTube reading by Gorman. Include questions of your own and those found in the lessons shared on this website. Extend learning further by asking students to create and share poems. As educators, we can prepare every child to be influential by helping them understand how to leverage the power of social media. While students intuitively understand the mechanics of social media platforms, using them in a responsible, purposeful way to build influence is not instinctual and must be taught and practiced. Learn to develop your students' social media savvy by using practice spaces focused on digital citizenship, critical thinking, persuasion, and communication skills. Explore online and offline strategies and tools to create safe, authentic learning experiences for students in grades 2-12 in any content area. As a result of this session, teachers will: 1. Learn the importance of responsible social media use by students; 2. Understand the purpose of using social media practice spaces as part of regular instruction; and 3. Explore both paper-based and digital practice spaces that can be used with students. This session is appropriate for teachers at all technology levels.

Scribble Diffusion uses artificial intelligence (AI) to turn your scribbles into refined drawings. Use the drawing tool to draw any object, then describe your image in the prompt box and click "go." In just a few moments, your idea comes to life in an AI-generated image. Refine your prompt as often as you like until you receive an image to use. Copy the link or right-click to download and save the image to your device when ready.

In the Classroom

Anytime students use images, discuss the proper use of copyright. Currently, copyright laws do not apply to AI-generated images; include this in your discussion and consider why this might be true. Create images to use as starters for creative writing projects, to include in multimedia projects, or for students to use as avatars for blogs. Use images created with Scribble Diffusion in digital storytelling projects, such as those created with Canva Edu, reviewed here or with Canva Comic Strip Templates, reviewed here. In art class, use one doodle to create images in different art styles and ask students to compare the different features of each style. Ask students to choose one art style to use in creating drawings by choosing from different options of media and supplies.
