Witeboard is a free and simple-to-use online whiteboard. Begin using the whiteboard without registration; click and draw! Then, use the tools at the bottom of the screen to change colors, add lines, add text, and more. Next, use the two lines at the bottom left of the whiteboard to find additional options that allow you to switch to a blackboard, include shape detection, and download and save the board as an image. Another option for sharing your board is using the share link at the top of the page; this option makes the board collaborative by including multiple participants. Registration isn't required; creating an account allows you to access previous boards on any device.
In the Classroom
Save the link to Witeboard to use for many different classroom options. For example, when working with small groups of students, use Witeboard to draw and share ideas on your mobile device. When students are working on computers, ask them to use Witeboard to demonstrate their understanding of math problems or draw a quick response to stories they read. After creating their response, have students save their work as an image and add it to your Google Classroom assignments or your learning management system such as Seesaw, reviewed here. In the Classroom
This site contains some ads that may be distracting; however, a quick lesson on avoiding them and engaging with only the desired content is all that is needed to keep most students from following advertising links. Add a link to the Break Your Own News Generator to your lists of other tools to use with images for many different purposes. One excellent tool for organizing and sharing resources with students is Padlet, reviewed here. Create columns in Padlet to organize different resources and then add links to make it easy for you and your students to find what they need. For example, engage students at the beginning of a new lesson or unit by creating a breaking news image to introduce the content. One example might be for a science lesson featuring simple machines with a headline sharing a runaway object that leads into your study of inclined planes. Extend learning and ask students to become creators and share breaking headlines to discuss new information they learned, share important information about story characters, or create a made-up headline about historical events. Poll Maker makes it easy to create and share polls in just a few seconds without requiring registration. Add your question and response choices in the blanks provided; options allow you to find and add images to both the question and the responses if desired. Additional tabs provide options for selecting and customizing a theme and personalizing settings. Setting options include security features, multiple answers as responses, and selections to hide or show results. Advanced settings allow you to set the start and end dates of polls. When ready to share your poll, copy and share the link, copy and paste the embed code onto a website, or invite users to your poll via email. Registration isn't required; however, it allows you to create and manage additional polls and view hidden results.
In the Classroom
Bookmark and save this handy site for many different classroom uses. Engage students when introducing a new topic by creating a poll to assess learning quickly or find students' interest in a topic. Use a poll as an exit ticket or as a formative assessment. Enhance learning by adding a link to a poll as part of a blended or flipped learning activity. For example, when delivering a flipped learning lesson using Microsoft Forms, reviewed here, include a link to a poll that asks students to reflect upon their understanding of the content learned. Extend learning by sharing the Poll Maker with students and asking them to conduct polls to gather information when learning about graphing. Discover the power of storytelling through the work of the International Storytelling Center. The center's work includes three main categories: performance, preservation, and practice. Although many events are part of paid admission to the Storytelling Festival, the site contains many free resources. Start with the "Storytellers" link to learn about featured storytellers that include links to their websites. Select the area entitled "Initiatives" to find Freedom Stories and the Learning Library. Freedom Stories is an ongoing series that features performances and discussions focused on the topic of the Black Heritage of Appalachia. The Learning Library is an area for educators that includes lessons, storytelling toolkits, stories in action, and other classroom resources. The videos are hosted on YouTube. If your district blocks YouTube, then they may not be viewable.
In the Classroom
Take advantage of this site's many storytelling resources to teach and share the art of storytelling with your students. Watch videos together and discuss how storytellers use different techniques to engage an audience. Use EdPuzzle, reviewed here, to create interactive video lessons by adding questions and notes to featured videos to guide students as they watch storytellers in action. As you encourage students to learn about storytelling, use activities found at ReadWriteThink, reviewed here, to help students plan and create stories. For example, use this lesson to create book trailers instead of book reports to guide students through a digital storytelling activity. As students gain confidence in storytelling, ask them to create a podcast series featuring their work. Never be embarrassed by mispronouncing a word again! This site has discrete pronunciation lessons featuring video broadcasts of pronunciation trouble spots. Each video link suggests further video lessons that may be related to the target pronunciation task. Text explanations explain that rhythm, stress, and intonation all contribute to understandable pronunciation. In addition to difficult sounds, lessons include poems, commonly mispronounced words, and words that look the same but have different pronunciation. Explanations of each lesson, found on the same page as the video, explain the sound using the International Phonetic Alphabet, explain the sounds using linguistic terms, and finally, describe where the tongue and lips should be to make the correct sound.

It also features English in 30-Seconds videos on news topics and language oddities like slang and idioms. In addition, there are quizzes, participatory polls, written and oral interviews, recipes, and many other selections. This is not a site for breaking or controversial news. Besides appealing to ESL/ELL students, this site would work well with resource classes. Please remember to preview anything you wish to share, to be sure the content is appropriate for your classroom. Some of the videos are hosted on YouTube. Brisk is a Chrome extension that uses AI to convert the reading level of any webpage to a different grade level or language, creates quizzes and resources from YouTube videos and documents, and much more. Once converted to a chosen level, Brisk offers tools for creating quizzes, giving feedback, and detecting writing created with AI. Begin by clicking the link to download Brisk from the Chrome store for free, and install the extension to your device. Once installed, click the Brisk icon on your toolbar from any website, then select the grade level and language desired. Brisk opens a new Google Doc with the information requested. Use the Brisk icon from within this Google Doc to find options for additional tools for creating quizzes, giving feedback, and detecting AI. Brisk offers a tutorial video that provides instructions for new members.

Use Brisk to quickly adapt and differentiate text or content by reading level and language needs or to translate text into the native language of multilingual learners and generate comprehension questions. Adobe Spark Post is a simple image creator that you can use to engage students and deepen content-area knowledge with instructional imagery. Learn to use this tool in the classroom to introduce digital citizenship concepts, create authentic assessment projects, and hone student skills that transfer to life outside of the classroom. Brainstorm with other educators about how you and your students can use Adobe Spark Post in your classroom and create a project exemplar. As a result of this session, teachers will: 1.
