Follow five easy steps to create personalized pictograms using the built-in features of this pictogram maker. First, start from scratch or use one of the premade templates and customize your information and design elements. The drag and drop features make it easy for participants to add and change content. After creating an account, begin with a blank template or choose from premade templates, including customer surveys, weather forecasts, and most popular social media channels. After selecting a template, use the dashboard features to change fonts, colors, graphics, data, and more. When complete, share your pictograph using the URL created upon publication, embed it onto a website using the embed code, or download it as a JPG or PNG image file. Visme's Pictogram Maker also offers the option of adding collaborators. Use the collaborator option to share as a view-only image, comment, or add editors.

Free-reading supplies oodles of lesson plans and activities to teach reading to Kindergarten and first grade students. It's a wiki-site: anyone using the free materials at this site is also invited to add his/her own lesson plans, adjust existing plans, or simply begin a discussion about particular plans. The reading instruction is based upon researched methodology, phonetically based. For an intensive program, follow the 40-week Intervention A, complete with lessons, activities, and materials. Students will enjoy the lively games, songs, and activities that accompany the lesson plans.

Read the research section closely to make sure it aligns with your school system's reading program. Most of activities are conducive to small-group instruction. Entire site is user-friendly. Allow lots of exploration time.

This fascinating site allows you to build your vocabulary and other knowledge while providing free grains of rice to the hungry throughout the world. This is a nice interactive way for kids to practice vocabulary and basics in chemistry, math, art history, geography, and world languages. Subjects available (via the link in the page footer)include checmical symbols, world language and English vocabulary, multiplication, world countries on a map, capitals, and famous paintings. Read the FAQ to find out where the money comes from and more.

Reminiscent of The Reader's Digest "Enrich Your Word Power" feature, this is a great little time filler, especially for those students who always seem to be ahead of the rest of the class. They can challenge themselves to better their "level" as gauged by the site. They can challenge each other to see who will give the most grains of rice in any given session. If your class has a vocabulary glossary wiki, this site will provide many new entry ideas! This site offers a list of short stories for ESL/ELL learners. Students can read the story, listen to the story, review the story, click on vocabulary words to access an online dictionary, and more. There is also a link to an online dictionary for other new words not featured in the vocabulary section at the top of the page. Many of the stories offer two listening speeds (slow and normal). Although the advertisements are a bit distracting, this website does offer a high number of ESL/ELL stories on a variety of topics. The subject matter of many stories is not appropriate for younger students. Preview!

The reading and listening activities are easy for students to work on independently because of the listening option. Special ed teachers may also have students who will benefit from the listening practice. Don't forget to provide the headphones. Need a sound for your digital storybook or PowerPoint presentation? This site offers free sounds, copyright free, for your personal use. These are sounds, not songs. They will need to be downloaded, so beware that your school's security may not allow this. Another option is to download the sounds at home onto a stick to bring to the classroom. Don't let the "geek speak" of some of the "blog posts" on the site intimidate you. Just click "search" on the left to find what you want. These sounds are licensed under Creative Commons, which means you may use them in PowerPoint shows and other multimedia as long as you GIVE CREDIT ("attribution"). See the link for "Rules" for downloaded sounds. Model ethical use of resources by viewing this together with your students, even little ones.

Go to the image gallery to browse images sorted by categories. The categories range from Architecture, Food, Animals, Insects, Plants and more. Right click to save images or choose optional links for different resolution sizes. In addition to the image gallery, be sure to check out the slide presentation gallery including visually appealing PowerPoint presentations on many topics. From the Clip Art Gallery (with free clip art to use) there is also a link to Learn How to Draw Your Own Clip Art. These are FREE to use. However, be sure to read and understand the Terms of Use! Note: you must be 18 to use this site. So while this is an excellent site for teachers to find resources, this shouldn't be shared with students to use independently.

Your students will thoroughly enjoy practicing their keyboarding using some of these fun-filled space themed activities. Want to know how your students are doing with typing? Then give them one of the typing tests. You can choose the passage and the length of time they have to complete it. If you want a record of their results, have them take the certificate test. When students have finished have them use the typing lesson section to practice letters that need more work. In addition, place on classroom computers and have students use after they finish classwork or use as a center for small groups of students. Convert and download YouTube videos to any device using the Free Video Downloader Online. First, find and copy the video link on the URL of your web browser (this is different than copying the link to share - you want to see the word "watch" in the link you copy). Next, click download to begin saving to your device, then choose from many different options for the type and size of the file to download. Additional download options include saving as an MP3, JPG thumbnail, or caption. For the final step, a preview will appear after selecting an option for download; pick the three dots in the video preview and choose the option to download. Then, view the download videos on your current media player, such as QuickTime.

YouTube is a fantastic resource, but using YouTube videos in the classroom can be difficult in various situations. Make it easier by converting any YouTube video to a downloadable MP3 file to play directly from your device. Paste the link to your video and click the link to begin the download. The footage quickly converts into an MP3 file that is ready to download and use. This site also works as a resource for downloading music, entering a song's name, and searching. Download the results to your device as a music or audio file after choosing the desired selection.

Avoid problems with low bandwidth or filters that block YouTube by using this site to solve many of your classroom video issues. After downloading videos, share them with students in presentations created with multimedia tools like Sway, reviewed here or upload to your Google Classroom as part of assigned activity. Freedom in the Balance is a free resource from NewseumED that uses real-life scenarios and historical and contemporary case studies to examine individual rights vs. national security. Click on More Details and use the drop-down menu for Explore the Questions. That is where you will find the essential questions, and the What Happened Then? and What's Happening Now? case studies. Click the button for the interactive Take Our Quiz to find out where you stand on freedom and whom you would "click with" in history. For the quiz, you will read ten scenarios, based on real-life examples, and select one of four responses about how you feel about the issue presented. Then get your profile results and see how you rank among all quiz takers. There is also an option to explore a case study based on the man who landed a gyrocopter on the Capitol lawn to bring attention to the need for campaign finance reform.

Review the First Amendment and the rights it provides to the citizens of the United States. Consider showing '45 Words' Video Lesson, reviewed here, for this. Then have students take the interactive quiz to find out their freedom profile. Pair together or make small groups of students who received different results from taking the quiz. Have the small groups or pairs each take a different essential question and read about the What Happened Then and What's Happening Now? case studies. Have students create a simple infographic using Infogram, reviewed here, to present what they learned to their classmates. Next, have them analyze the scenarios from the quiz and the possible responses to see which responses issued their profile/results. Ask students to apply the knowledge gained from this investigation to create a scenario and responses for the Explore the Case Study about the man who landed a gyrocopter on the Capitol lawn to bring attention to the need for campaign finance reform.

Convert, edit, and save video files with Freemake Video Converter. The video converter supports over 300 file input formats including video, audio, and image files. Use templates provided to turn photos or images into slideshows with a chosen soundtrack. Other features include the ability to clip and rotate video, upload to YouTube, and convert files to burn and save on Blu-ray or DVD. Be sure to watch the video on the site with directions on how to use this tool. It is a YouTube video so you may need to watch it somewhere other than at school.
In the Classroom

This tool and Online-Convert are both used to download and save videos at home that you wish to show to students, especially if they are blocked at school. This site offers a variety of downloadable PDF graphic organizers for English/Language Arts classroom. Many of the graphic organizers (like the Venn diagrams) could be used in various subject areas. Some of the organizers include SQ3R, Pros and Cons Scale, KWL, Pyramids, and 10+ pages of other forms of graphic organizers!
In the Classroom
This is a great site to help students sequence, brainstorm, and organize information. Use on an interactive whiteboard or projector and fill out organizers after a lesson. Print out organizers and have students use them in cooperative reading groups. Use the organizers to differentiate for students who need extra scaffolding or for students who need extension activities. As students get older and learn which study skills help them best, they will want to access this site on their own to study for tests. Be sure to save this site in your personal favorites!
