Do you need help finding and selecting colors for digital projects? Canva's Colors includes resources to learn about color and find the perfect palette for any design. Upload a photo to the Color palette generator to view four selected colors that coordinate with the image. The generated colors include both the color name and the color code. If you are looking for ideas, try the Color palettes. Browse through the color palettes or explore by typing a theme, color, or keyword to find suggested palettes. Learn about color theory and color combinations by exploring the Color wheel. Take an in-depth look at colors in the Color Meaning portion of the site. Choose any color to learn more about the color space and conversions in different formats.

Web Whiteboard is a free, collaborative, online whiteboard that doesn't require registration. All collaboration takes place in real-time, so there is no need to save work as you use the whiteboard. Just click the link to begin using the whiteboard tools. Share the URL with collaborators. Web Whiteboard also includes a direct link to create a whiteboard using Google Hangouts. Boards remain available for 21 days when using the free account. For more information, be sure to watch the one-minute demo for an overview of how to use this tool.
In the Classroom
Allow students to create collaborative drawings as responses to literature. They can map out the plot or themes, add labels, create character studies, and more. Share the finished products on an interactive whiteboard, projector, or your class website. Have a group of students create a drawing that another group can use as a writing prompt. Use Web Whiteboard as a brainstorming or sketching space as groups or the class share ideas for a major project or to solve a real world problem. Use this site with students in a computer lab (or on laptops) to create a drawing of the setting in a story as it is read aloud. As a creative assessment idea, have students draw out a simple cartoon with stick figures to explain a more complex process such as how a democracy works. If you are lucky enough to teach in a BYOT setting, use Web Whiteboard to demonstrate and illustrate any concept while students use the chat and drawing tools to interact in real time. If you are studying weather, have students diagram the layers of the atmosphere and what happens during a thunderstorm, for example. Introduce this tool to students who are working on group projects. Alternatively, have students use this to work as partners or as a small team to complete complex math problems or equations. Give students a problem by typing it on their board. Dotstorming is a online polling system that also includes a chat box for users add comments. Use Screencast-o-matic, < a href="/single.cfm?id=9564">reviewed here to demonstrate how to use specific technology tools for interested teachers. Use Screencast-o-matic to make a video recording of your computer screen demonstrating different features and implementation of online tools. Make it easy for peers to find all of your screen recordings by uploading them to Padlet, reviewed here. Of course, by sharing them to Padlet you also introduce a new tech tool for them to try! Instead of a one-time professional development session, consider creating an ongoing podcast using Buzzsprout, reviewed here to share new technology tools, provide advice and tips, and answer common questions. The ISTE YouTube channel provides a great starting point for learning and sharing tech tips with peers.

Time Lightbox features photos and videos of current events, behind the scenes, new exhibits, books, and technology. Take another critical view of current events with photos never released or ways never portrayed. This daily, behind the scenes look, lets you know what is happening on the front lines, through photojournalism with portraits, faces, and events that are changing our history. The images give you a mix into the artistic world of photojournalism with a closer look at our world.
In the Classroom
Lightbox offers applications into many subject areas in the classroom. In social studies, world histories, or current events look closer at the portrayal of current events. Use this site as an anticipatory set or "activator" to introduce a unit or lesson on a projector or interactive whiteboard. Analyze the viewpoint given by the media and compare to the behind the scenes look at Lightbox. What are the stories, experiences, and effects behind the news? How does history change the lives of people? Discover multiple viewpoints that might come to life from these riveting images. Follow current events and bring them to a personal level for students. In Art classes, dive into the art of photojournalism with composition, style, space, and elements of design. Bring to life a study of current photographers portraying messages in unique manners. In Language Arts class, determine characterization, story, or details discovered in each image. Challenge students to link to one of the photos, and then narrate the photo as if it were a news report using PowerPoint Online, reviewed here. Create audio recordings AND choose a location (on a map) where the story takes place with Zeemaps, reviewed here. Use images as ready-made writing prompts for current events or writing classes. Develop multiple points of view into well-known events to share, debate, and discover how people are affected. Lightbox will make any blog become dazzling and poignant. Keep students active, reflective, and involved in current events in an intriguing, visual way. ELL/ESL learners will benefit from the extra information shown in each photograph. Challenge gifted learners to analyze and synthesize current events in ways that they have yet to discover! Remember that these images are copyrighted, so the best way to display them on a blog or other web project is as a LINKED image. COPY the direct image URL by RIGHT-clicking on the image itself and choosing "copy image location" on a Mac or "Properties" on a windows computer. News Flash Five Get the Scoop (part of PBS Kids), presents students with situations in need of a news story. Star reporters, ready, get set, and you are off to an investigation for your latest breaking news article. This interactive site offers graphics as well as written and spoken words to highlight all the information. While you navigate through the site, you visit several sources, and listen to the investigations. You can navigate to choose the sources and to take the information into a draft. After visiting various sources, you submit your news article to rate and get an assessment. To end your assignment, your editor rates your story and adds helpful hints to improve your writing.

Use this site as an introduction to news articles. Try several versions to see the different types of stories that result. Now shift your news article skills to your choice of topic. Follow the same processes suggested and be sure to return to the reflection piece of your new article. Use this as introduction, and use as a reference while writing your own stories. With the graphics and written language, this site provides instant success for ESL/ELL students. Allow your gifted students to keep this site as a reference for all of their future work. Incorporate all of your newspaper articles into the life of your classroom or school. Add a newspaper piece to your next themed unit. Publish on your website, blog, or in written form.
