Convert PDF and image files to editable text in three easy steps using the OCR word recognition tool from Geekersoft; no registration is required. First, upload your file or drag it onto the workspace, select a language and select the type of file to save. Options include Word, Excel, PPT, or TXT documents. When the conversion is complete, download and save the file to your device.
In the Classroom
Bookmark and save this conversion tool for many classroom needs. Convert worksheets saved as PDFs to Word documents to edit and easily make changes. For example, many student worksheets available with textbooks are in PDF format. PDF files are the most common document type available; take advantage of this conversion site to extract information and explore different scenarios using the original formulas. Science teachers can take lab activities and refine questions or add instructions as needed for their classroom. Parlay Genie uses artificial intelligence to create discussion prompts for any topic or URL. Parlay Genie, a feature of Parlay, reviewed here, generates higher-order thinking questions to develop and encourage deeper thinking among students through round table discussions. Begin by selecting to create a discussion either with your topic or with a URL, choose to make between one and three questions, add the URL or subject, and choose the grade level of your students beginning with 5th grade and going up to higher education. The final step is to generate your prompts with an option to regenerate questions if desired. Registration is not required to create discussion prompts using Parlay Genie; however, creating a free account includes options for sharing discussion questions with your students through the Parlay dashboard.
In the Classroom
Use Parlay Genie to quickly generate discussion questions for whole-class or groups for any topic. Easily differentiate questions for different groups of students by developing questions for different grade levels to match student abilities. If you are not sharing discussions through Parlay, use many digital resources to share questions and gather information from students. For example, engage students in the discussion activity by asking them to share a short response using Vevox, reviewed here. Use the students' responses to generate a word cloud in Vevox to highlight common responses. Then ask students to work in groups that explore the initial responses more in-depth to extend understanding. Have each group work on a collaborative document such as Google Docs or Microsoft Word. Qwant is a search engine that allows you to search several forms of media at once, share easily, or create bookmarks and lists. Type in any search term to display results in columns sorted by web, news, graphs, social, and shopping. Or click to view in classic view. Click the Boards tab to browse collections by others (similar to Pinterest). Account creation isn't necessary, but it allows the option to save, tag, and organize sites into public or private lists.
In the Classroom
Create a classroom account to create and share resources for any subject. Allow students to add information found on their own. You may want to have students cooperatively "tech out" Quant on your projector or interactive whiteboard so they know how to use all its features. Bookmark Qwant on classroom computers as an alternative search engine to the one you already use. Imagine automatically creating a video from a written description. That's a fantastic prospect, and it is now possible using the magic of Invideo AI. invideo AI turns your ideas into videos in just a few short minutes. After creating an account, select the link to make a video. In the chat space, describe in detail and provide instructions for completing the video using up to 3600 characters. After adding the description, choose the button to generate the video and wait for the magic to happen. Creating videos will take a few minutes. Once your video is generated, use the available tools to regenerate if changes are desired, or choose to export the video when ready. Download the video to your device in mp4 format and select from the available options for video quality. Share videos with students from your device, using the provided link, or export videos to YouTube, reviewed here. Free accounts offer ten minutes per week of video generation, 10 GB of storage, and four exports weekly with the invideo logo. As always, when using artificial intelligence (AI) tools, verify that all information is accurate before sharing it with students.

Find seven videos about climate change and the evidence scientists have about recent climate change and its causes. The scientific community, on the whole, has accepted the main body of evidence about climate change and the causes. If unsure what the controversy is all about, or possibly to validate your own opinion, become more knowledgeable about climate change and causes by watching these videos. Offered in seven segments, this content replicates a longer video by the same name, making for easier viewing and understanding. Develop an informed opinion about this highly controversial issue. These videos are hosted on YouTube. If your district blocks YouTube, they may not be viewable.
In the Classroom
Watch the series of videos as a class or assign them for homework, in a flipped classroom strategy. If using the flipped classroom strategy, use a program like Vibby, reviewed here, where you can embed questions at certain points in the video. Another idea that would put you at the top of the scale as a Common Core prepared teacher would be to use a program like Google Scholar, reviewed here,, to help you find articles about climate change, greenhouse emissions, carbon emissions, etc. from many different sources. Develop your vocabulary and understanding of culture through words. The site offers a series of short videos presented by experts from the University of Nottingham's School of Cultures, Languages, and Area Studies. Each video takes an in-depth look at the story behind many words of the world, including where they came from, what they mean, and how the words have changed over time. Simply click on any word in the visual to view the video. Most videos are less than 5 minutes in length. This site was created in the United Kingdom, so you may notice some slight pronunciation (or spelling) differences from American English. Many of the videos are hosted on YouTube. If your district blocks YouTube, then they may not be viewable.
In the Classroom
Words of the World is a great site for some quick vocabulary building, but even more it is a window into words as vital components of culture and history. Share these videos on your interactive whiteboard (or projector) for a quick lesson on the background and meaning of several words. Use it to talk about how words can also define a time period in history or a concept that is vital to a particular culture. Explore language as PART of a culture as you study different countries. Find out what words are unique to that culture. Use this site as an example, then challenge cooperative learning groups to create their own word background videos of culture-connected words and share them on a site such as TeacherTube reviewed here. Share a link to videos using links provided on your class website for students to view as a word of the week. Longform recommends new and classic fiction and non-fiction from around the web. Read articles on a browser or save to read later with Readability, Instapaper, Pocket, or Kindle. Articles include every imaginable topic. There are publications as "well-known" as New York magazine and as "low-profile" as the Broward-Palm Beach New Times. Search for a topic using the search bar or scroll through current offerings on the home page. Narrow down choices by method of reading such as Instapaper or Kindle format. You can also find podcasts about featured publications and articles. Click on an article's title to read online or print using links provided. Choose the read later button to save to your Longform account. Registration using an email address and password is required for this option.
In the Classroom
Create a classroom account and save articles to use with classroom topics or for independent student reading. Find informational texts to use for Common Core practice. Share this site with students to create their own account to find articles to read. This is definitely a site that you want to list on your class wiki, blog, or website. Teachers of writing can use these articles as examples of different writing styles and of writing with audience and voice in mind. Topics include timely events like a solar eclipse and thought-provoking questions like whether dinosaurs burped. Each podcast episode includes a blog with a transcript and supplemental information such as videos, images, and links to additional resources. Most podcast episodes run between twenty and thirty minutes and are available on several podcast-hosting resources, including Apple, Google, and Amazon Music.

Podcasts can be an engaging way to promote interest in science topics as part of a listening center rotation or to enhance your current lessons. Enhance learning by downloading the transcript and creating a set of questions using an AI resource such as MagicSchool, reviewed here. Understanding and using figurative language enhances spoken and written words. This article from the TeachersFirst Help! I Lost My Library/Media Specialist series reviewed here shares background knowledge, book suggestions, and classroom activities to teach figures of speech to elementary students. Each section in the activities portion includes "read" and "do" suggestions for teaching similes, metaphors, and other figures of speech. Also included are extension activities to reinforce these concepts. Information includes correlation to ISTE and AASL standards.

EduProtocols are a set of structured lesson designs that enable teachers to deliver content and engage students in interactive learning experiences. This second session in our series will review EduProtocols and how they can be used in different subjects and grade levels. We'll also take a deeper dive by creating and planning to implement EduProtocols in the classroom. As a result of this session, teachers will: 1. Understand the purpose and benefits of using EduProtocols in the classroom; 2. Learn how to adapt EduProtocols for different subjects and grade levels; and 3. Practice designing EduProtocols for classroom implementation. This session is appropriate for teachers at all technology levels.
