Ask your students to use the Fake Ticket Generator to create excitement for class presentations. Have them create tickets and hand them out to other students to use to be admitted to class for their presentation. Create tickets to hand out to students at the beginning of any unit to create interest and excitement. Make tickets to give to parents as invitation to Meet the Teacher night, Science and Book Fairs, PTO meetings, and more. Create tickets that students can earn, such as a ticket to skip a homework assignment or to have extra time at centers. Give out tickets to special events in the library/media center, such as Dress as Your Favorite Author Day. Have students create tickets to a classroom museum or science fair. Create a "fake" Facebook-style page for anyone or anything! It's a good idea to do a little planning ahead of time, then just follow the directions on the landing page. Give your page a name and add an image from your computer. (They insert an image for you if you do not select one, however, you can change the image by clicking on it and selecting one from your computer.) Of course you will need to use a Creative Commons or other copyright-safe image. You can also add videos and links, edit the profile, and your page is almost ready. You must add at least one post and one friend to save work. Under the "Friends" block, you can add blocks such as Family, Major Speeches, etc. Choose "save" from the options on top left side of the page, enter a password, and your unique URL for your Fakebook page appears. Be sure to copy and save this link as it is the only time it is given in the setup process. If you are prepared with images and links, page creation is quick and easy with a small learning curve. Share your Fakebook page with the link to your page.

Engage and create interest in classroom learning with Fakebook. Fakebook is terrific for creating interest in many subjects. Instead of a typical biographical report in social studies, students create a Fakebook page about their famous person. Write about presidents, founding fathers, famous scientists or artists, Civil War soldiers, and more. Have students create a timeline of any historical event (name the page for the event, such as World War II). Use Fakebook to outline a book, play, or film plot, then share with students while studying the material. To use Fakebook to study literature, create a page for the central character, the book's author, or the book's setting. For a unique twist in science class, create a Fakebook page for a periodic element or another science topic. Use the page to describe "the life" of that atom or element. In world language classes, have students do this activity (about themselves) in the second language they are learning. Create a Fakebook page for the first day of school to introduce yourself to students or at Open House for parents. Challenge students to create and share a page about themselves during the first week of school. Share a Fakebook page with students to demonstrate proper netiquette and social sharing. Be sure to share a rubric with students for all expectations of what should be included on their page. Make Fakebook one of the options for your gifted students doing projects beyond the regular curriculum. If famous people from long ago had inboxes, what would be in them? Famous Inboxes takes that concept and creates inboxes for characters in literature, entertainment, and history. Choose from artists, musicians, great leaders, authors, and many more categories. Each inbox contains a screenshot of the person's email (mythical) inbox including the subject of the email and the sender. This is an entertaining and provocative site sure to inspire lots of ideas for your own use! Be sure to preview before you share as some of the topics (or "texting" language) may not be appropriate for the classroom.
In the Classroom
Share Famous Inboxes with your students on your interactive whiteboard or projector using a character or author studied in class. Assign students to each of the inbox titles and have them write the actual email sent. Don't see anyone to use in class? Create your own or have students use the site as a model to create their own. Most likely, working in groups will get the creative juices flowing. This would be a great model to use for introducing a history or science unit or for looking at the relationships between characters in literature. Have students write the emails as an end of unit review. Subscribe to the RSS feed of this site to receive updated contents. Use the option to create an inbox as a differentiated challenge for your gifted students. For example: Summarize World War II by showing Winston Churchill's inbox, then write two of the key emails. As a "hook" for new books in the media center, have students create inboxes for one of the characters and post them with the book jackets. What do Archimedes, Pythagoras, and Srinivasa Ramanujan have in common? They all enjoy a spot on this site of famous mathematicians. Begin with an overview of mathematics over time starting with Thales of Miletus from 624-546 BC through Andrew Wiles' solving Fermat's Last Theorem in 1994 on the site's homepage. Learn about different mathematicians by choosing from the alphabetical list (alphabetized by first names) found on each page. Also worth exploring is the site's blog featuring groups of 15 famous mathematicians by different categories including women and Greek mathematicians.

Although this site doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles, it contains a great deal of historic and biographical information on famous (and perhaps, not so famous) mathematicians. Bookmark the site to use as a resource for a mathematician of the week to feature in your classroom. Sometimes it's best to go straight to the source. The US Department of Education offers advice, information, and links for those searching for financial aid to attend post-secondary education. Not a fancy site, but all the relevant information is there: defining the kinds of financial aid, applying for financial aid, comparing financial aid offers from colleges, and understanding the repayment process. There is also a link to the new "College Scorecard" site that provides more guidance in comparing the potential financial costs of different colleges. In addition, there are several infographics and videos (which link to YouTube) that provide important overviews in each of the broad categories covered on the site. If your district blocks YouTube, then they may not be viewable.
In the Classroom
While this is certainly a good site for students and families to consult from home, it would also be useful as an authentic resource for lessons in financial literacy, career and college planning, and life planning. At the very least, a great bookmark to publicize or add to classroom computers. Be sure to share this link on your class website.

Feedspot is a tool for gathering, reading and sharing all the interesting blogs and websites you read on the web. Simply sign up (email required) and import information from other feed readers or start new. Add the url of any RSS feed to include it in your stream. Click the little RSS feed icon on any blog or site that has regular updates. Once added to Feedspot, read feeds by clicking the title in your main window or search for new feeds using the "You Might Like" box. Share using links provided to social networking sites or use tags and folders to organize information. Be sure to read the "Getting Started" link for useful tips in using Feedspot. This is an excellent alternative for users of Google Reader (now shut down).

Create a class Feedspot account to follow blogs of interesting teachers, schools, authors, or museums and zoos. If your students write blogs, add student accounts to Feedspot for easy viewing of all their posts. This site offers a vast array of resources and information for working with Fibonacci Numbers, Golden Section Numbers, and the Golden String. Although the site design is "plain vanilla," the content is quite good. Be sure to check out the quick introduction page mentioned at the beginning of the site to find information on Fibonacci in nature along with images and activities. Links to activities are clearly marked with a pencil icon for quick access. Also included is an in-depth biography of Leonardo of Pisa who became known as Fibonacci in his later years. Students will love some of the number tricks found on the site under the Mathematical Magic of Fibonacci Numbers.

FigJam is an online collaborative whiteboard with many built-in versatile tools for classroom use. The whiteboard offers infinite space to add templates, drawings, and areas for conversations and projects. In addition, interactive elements allow members to react to ideas with emojis, high-fives, and stamps. Create an account to begin using FigJam and access all of its features. Create your FigJam board by selecting the purple "+FigJam Board" link near the top of the home page. Add features to your whiteboard by choosing from the many options available, including drawing and writing tools, a timer, and an AI generator to create items such as timelines and mindmaps. Share your FigJam board with others by copying the link, sending an email, or copying the embed code onto a webpage.
In the Classroom
Use FigJam in many different ways to engage learners and support classroom instruction. Google Jamboard, reviewed here is a similar but less robust tool than FigJam and will not be supported after December 31, 2024. Migrate your current Jamboards into FigJam. This link will take you to the directions for importing your Jamboards to FigJam. When working in FigJam, use sticky notes as a collaborative activity to brainstorm ideas and information as a class. Use the drawing tools and ask students to label places, parts of plants, and more. Use FigJam templates to create all-about-me activities, such as class check-in and exit ticket activities, Frayer Model activities, and much more.
