In the younger grades, teachers would be the ones creating the project. Have students create presentations to "introduce" themselves to the class during the first week of school. Fotor is an easy online photo editing tool that doesn't require registration. Upload any picture from your computer to begin. Choose from the editing choices provided. Select a template and use basic editing tools to automatically enhance, rotate, crop, resize, and adjust lighting on images. Choose from many effects such as vintage, sepia, and other color effects. Add frames, apply a splash of color, or add text. When finished, save to your computer. Share on Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, or email with links provided. Other options include templates for creating collages, photo cards, and HDR images. All options are clearly labeled, and edits are available until you are happy with the finished result. Looking to create a collage? With Fotor, you can do that, too! At the time of this review, fotor was available as an app for iPhone, Android and works on Windows and Mac.

Use this tool anytime that photos need to be edited for use on class blogs, wikis, or sites. In primary grades, this tool could be useful for teachers to use to edit pictures from a field trip, science experiments, and more. Consider making them into a collage and posting it on your webpage. Both images are similar in appearance; however, shadowing provides subtle depth to the icon. Browse through the site to find available icons such as plants, classroom items, and much more. Each template includes options to choose from and select facial features to make a one-of-a-kind avatar. In addition, the templates offer several looks that serve as the starting point for the avatar. To begin, choose a template and login into your Adobe account. Next, drag and drop features onto the face outline to create your desired look. Additional options allow avatar creators to change the background, add text, icons, and more to personalize the slide. When finished, select the download link to save to your device as a JPEG, PNG, or PDF file.

Easily design and share comic strips using one of the many templates available from Adobe Express. Select any shared templates on the home page to begin, or sign in to your Adobe Express account and select comic strips from the template options. Searching through the templates is most accessible by viewing only free designs. After choosing a template, use the dashboard to add and modify the contents of the comic strip. Options include changing backgrounds, adding text and images, adding shapes, and much more. When finished, download your design as a JPG, PNG, or PDF document. Then, use the publish option to create a link, share to Google Classroom or Teams, or choose from other social media sharing options.
In the Classroom
Engage students by using the templates to display the day's vocabulary word, the math puzzle of the week, or a concept your students are learning in social studies or science, for example. Have students create comic strips for dialog-writing lessons, summarizing, predicting, and retelling stories. Use comic strips for literature responses. For pre-reading students, create a comic of pictures and tell the story based on the pictures/scenes. It's a good idea to require students to create a rough draft of their comic using Printable Comic Strip Templates, reviewed here. Make a class book of the comics created throughout the year. That book is likely to become a class favorite! Use comics to show the sequencing of events. For example, when studying characterization, they create a dialog to show (not tell) about a character. World language and ENL/ESL teachers can assign students to create dialog strips as an alternative to a formal assessment. DesignCap provides a quick and easy infographic maker for you to use. No expertise in graphic design is necessary. First, create an account with Google, Facebook, or your email. Next, choose "Infographic" from the left menu. You can then choose the format of infographic you wish to create, such as Process, Timeline, Health, and several others. Once you have the format you want, choose "Customize." You can select a different font and size, upload images from your computer or their library, change the background, and more. When finished, save your infographic to work on or view later or download it to your computer.

Introduce DesignCap's infographic templates found on the left menu. Ask students to select one that appeals to them, and then create one as a class for a concept you just learned or as a review for a test. Show on your whiteboard or with a projector how to select a template or create your own, where to find the image library, and how to upload your own images. Once the class has saved the infographic, you can have them create infographics on their own to include in multimedia reports, as a book report, as a study aid for a test, or to show what they've learned from a unit of study. Use Free Map Tools to add interest to any social studies or math lessons. Learn about area in math by locating homes or businesses on the map, and determining the area that would need to be shoveled during each winter. Find the distance between any two points (home and the pizza place?) and compare that distance to actual driving distance. Want to know what is directly underneath you on the globe? Have students make a prediction. Then use the Map Tunneling Tool to find out if the predictions were correct. Use throughout the year for any number of purposes! Just as the title states, this site offers tutorials in basic math concepts such as addition and subtraction all the way through fractions, money, algebra, and counting change. There are also tutorials that provide training in Microsoft Excel and Google Spreadsheets. Choose any topic to begin with a lesson, quiz, or to view a video. Click the link for the printable version of lessons. Videos are hosted on YouTube. If your district blocks YouTube, then they may not be viewable.

Help is available in several forms - there are video tutorials, collections of lessons from textbooks, live online chat, and a message board for posting questions. Textbook lessons, divided into subjects, also have specific components of the lesson and include a written explanation with examples and images. The videos are portions of DVD's that aren't free, however, the video links are free and assessable to all. Caution: The online chat or message board needs monitoring when students post questions.

Generate any image you can describe with text using the online image generator from Canva, reviewed here. Canva employs three tools (apps) to generate images - Magic Media, Dall-E by Open AI, and Imagen by Google Cloud. Begin by selecting the link to generate images, then select the tool of your choice. Magic Media is built into Canva's design tools and is accessible when creating a design. Dall-E generates realistic images and art; Imagen turns text into photorealistic images. Use Dall-E or Imagen in an existing design or create a new one. After selecting an app, add a text description of the image to generate, including as much detail as possible. Continue revising your text until you are satisfied with the image, then add filters, effects, or other elements available from Canva's library to complete your image. Follow the directions to add your image to your Canva library, include it in a presentation, or share it directly with any supported platforms.
In the Classroom
Use Canva's image generator for any number of classroom uses to encourage creativity and bring any idea to life instantly! Teach students to use descriptive language in writing to bring characters and settings to life. Generate images of historical characters to help students visualize historical events or places. In science class, ask students to generate images of systems or molecules to represent abstract concepts. Include AI-created images when using webpage makers such as Carrd, reviewed here, newsletters, or videos created with online applications such as Clipchamp, reviewed here.
