Follow the steps to build a lesson - final lessons include teaching notes, slides, and standards-aligned assessments. Begin building your lesson with a classroom text or literary concepts. Use the search feature to find titles and authors. When complete, save to your account and access the finished product at any time. Lessons build into prepared slides to share on your interactive whiteboard. WordsLiive uses the "clean" version of included songs and music by removing questionable language. Knowing if students "caught what was taught" is crucial in instruction. This session introduces the concept of exit tickets and ways you can use them to gauge what your students took away from your lessons. Learn to use the data from these informal formative assessments to adjust your instructional plan to accommodate the needs of your students. Allow students who are ready to move on and give those who need additional instruction the attention they need. Join us to explore the use of exit tickets and determine how they can fit into your instructional plan. As a result of this session, teachers will: 1. Learn about three categories of exit tickets; 2. Understand how to use exit ticket data; and 3. Plan for the use of exit tickets in your setting. This session is appropriate for teachers at all technology levels.

Narrow the search by date, subject, language, and more. Be sure to visit the About this Collection tab to find links to interactive maps and timelines as well as educator resources including several lessons correlated to standards.

This site is a goldmine for finding music to accompany any American history unit! Use resources from the site as an anticipatory set or "activator" to introduce a unit or lesson on a projector or interactive whiteboard. Play music from the period you are studying during reading or research time. Allow students to explore the site on their own, and then share their findings with classmates. Have students create timelines (it can include text, images and collaboration) using Sutori, reviewed here.

The site offers an assortment of categories such as Dissections, Human and Animal Skeletons, Fossils, and an extensive listing of Chemicals. There are also categories not typically associated with a "toad" such as: Yoga, Music, Dental Hygiene, History, Ballet Positions, Computer Networking, Emergency Preparedness, and more! The History link is interesting and includes American 1700-1800 and American Civil War: both packed with artifacts. Choose any image then drag your mouse to view or zoom in and out as desired.

Use 3D Toad as a visual glossary on classroom computers. Have students visit this "visual glossary" center to explore objects and new vocabulary that they are learning. Teaching English Jukebox is a Padlet, reviewed here, with links to many videos useful for teaching English and grammar concepts through song. Each Padlet entry includes the name and artist of the video along with a suggestion for its use in teaching English. Some concepts on the site include past tense, idioms, and story-telling. Click any entry to go to the shared video. Some of the videos reside on YouTube. If your district blocks YouTube, the videos may not be viewable.
In the Classroom
Browse through these suggestions with your class with a projector or interactive whiteboard, or have students explore on their own. Use these activities to practice rhythm, rests, and more in music class or to illustrate basics about sound in a science class. Discover a huge collection of interactive illustrations to help explain complex concepts in science, technology, art, math, and a range of other topics. Use these activities to create interactive visualizations. There are thousands of Mathematica Demonstrations. A demonstration is a Mathematica notebook that takes advantage of Mathematica's manipulate command. Use the manipulate command to create sliders or buttons or check boxes to change the values of parameters in the displays in the demonstration. The result is you control the animation. View demonstrations on topics ranging from odd and even numbers to odd and even functions, fractions to fractals, and from linear functions to linear algebra and linear programming. In addition to mathematical topics, there are demonstrations illustrating the time in different cities around the world, global demographic information, the solar system, and art and music concepts. You need to download the Wolfram CDF player to use and interact with the demonstrations.

Explain how to use the Demonstrations on your interactive whiteboard (or projector). Allow students to explore on their own classroom computers. (Remember to download the CDF player onto each computer or request it in advance from your tech department.) Challenge students to create a talking avatar using a photo or other image (legally permitted for reproduction). Use avatars to explain activities performed using a Demonstration. Use a site such as Blabberize, reviewed here. The beauty of the demonstrations is that it allows students to manipulate and "play" to view the impact of changes made, allowing many opportunities for classroom discussion. In addition to music, using the search bar, Genius also offers annotations for literature, news, sports, TV shows, and movies. Search any section to find specific content or browse through the latest offerings. Install the Chrome extension to use Genius's Web Annotator and add your own notes to any web page or put genius.it in front of any URL to annotate and read other user's notes on any web page. If your district blocks YouTube, some portions may not be viewable. Important: Content is not moderated, be sure to PREVIEW and check for inappropriate content before using with students.

After creating an account, type Teacher's Guide in the search box to find the link for a very complete guide. The guide has information for using Genius in the classroom and creating accounts. Use the information found with literature selections to build Common Core skills analyzing informational texts. Use the site to post and share discussion assignments on specific articles or even parts of articles. Find a relevant article to your subject. Highlight the part that you want students to read. For younger students, keep it short to reduce the intimidating reality of too much information for kids. Attach a note with a discussion question for the students. ChordU uses the latest technology to recognize and share chords from favorite music tracks. Search for a song, or browse through trending tracks and other popular favorites by genre. Select a song to view on YouTube and play along using the visual chord display. Choose from a variety of instruments including guitar, piano, and ukulele. Other options allow users to select from simple and advanced chords, tune chords to personal preferences, and view by the chord slider or chord sheet. Registration isn't required; however, it allows you to save favorites for later use. Videos are hosted on YouTube. If your district blocks YouTube, then they may not be viewable; be sure to look at alternatives for sharing the videos on classroom computers.

Music teachers will definitely want to bookmark this site to use as a resource when selecting instruments for in-class use or use by band members. Share this site with parents looking for advice in choosing an instrument for their student. LibreTexts is an open educational resource (OER) for finding and sharing textbooks, textmaps, and libretexts. The site currently covers twelve college disciplines, from chemistry to the humanities. Advanced features within the books include embedded multimedia, embedded code, and the ability to use Hypothesis, reviewed here, as a collaborative digital annotation tool within texts. Choose the Explore the Libraries option to find material by subject. Most subjects include links to texts, course shells (teaching modules from different institutions), and homework examples.
In the Classroom
LibreTexts is a bonanza for AP and teachers of gifted students. Take advantage of the free texts, course outlines, and homework resources to differentiate instruction and provide lessons for advanced students. Choose resources from LibreTexts for use in any classroom to supplement current materials. As part of career-planning activities, ask students to browse through topics that interest them. Encourage students to collaborate with others with similar career interests, both in the classroom and globally. Extend learning by suggesting that students participate in Ted-Ed Clubs, reviewed here. These Clubs allow participants to share in global meetings with peers that have a common interest. As students learn more about their chosen field, encourage them to interact with members of your community to ask questions and perhaps job shadow as a way to understand the career through personal experience. If using course materials and textbooks found on LibreTexts, this is the perfect opportunity for students to ask clarifying questions from their mentor. Enhance learning by making students the experts. Ask them to present their career findings using a multimedia tool like Sway, reviewed here, to share the information learned with peers.

Musicmap is a colorful guide to the genealogy of popular music genres based on research from over 200 sources. Color-coding on the map indicates relationships between different genres. Choose any area of the map to click and read the history behind the style and listen to music in the playlist. Tools on the sidebar of the map offer different features to find and access content within the site. This site includes YouTube videos.
In the Classroom
If you teach music, be sure to include this as a starting point for teaching music history and different formats. This site isn't just for music teachers. In Social Studies, use this site to provide context to different periods of history through music and as a starting point for student research on music styles and life during any period. If you teach Reading and Language Arts, use this site to find and share music from the period found in novels and current reading materials. Take advantage of students' interest in music to use this Musicmap as a starting point for research and biography projects. As students complete their research, enhance their learning by asking them to share their findings on a website created using Webnode, reviewed here. In addition to student writing, include audio, video, and images to tell their story. Open Yale Courses offers free (non-credit) introductory courses taught by teachers and scholars at Yale University. Open access allows participants to view videos, download transcripts, and receive all related course materials at any time. Choose from courses in topics ranging from English, History, African-American Studies, Languages, and many more. They offer countless topics: Art History, Psychology, various languages and literatures (Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian), Chemistry, American History, and many more.
In the Classroom
This is an excellent resource for gifted students as well as students interested in viewing high quality college level course material. Browse through topics of interest for your AP or IB classroom and use selected videos for viewing on your interactive whiteboard (or projector). Share a link on your class webpage for students to view at home. Teachers of gifted may want to suggest that students form small cohorts to explore one of the course of particular interest to them. Learn how the human eye works, how cheetahs run so fast and explore the inside of solar cells, among the many other topics. After selecting an infographic, scroll through to explore the different content that includes animated graphs, images, and text.
In the Classroom
Share the animated graphs from this site as an introduction to learning units. Provide students time to explore the animation independently, then ask them to share interesting information learned. Use Answer Garden, reviewed here, to gather student responses and share ideas as a group. The animations found on this site are perfect to include in a blended learning space such as Curipod, reviewed here. Include videos, articles, and animations to provide a digital learning unit for your students. Use the animations as a model for students to create their own infographics using Canva Infographic Maker, reviewed here. Looking for resources to use on your interactive whiteboard? If so, this site is a tremendous resource for all whiteboard users, not just those with a Promethean Board. View, search, and download from over 60,000 resources in all subject areas and grade levels. Use the Resources tab to search by state standard, content, grade level, or resource type. Register on the site to enable download ability as well as many other features such as saving favorites, reviewing resources, asking questions on the technical forum, following specific users, and uploading your own resources. Each resource includes a short description, grade level recommendation, file format, and size. Another great feature is the slide show included with each download for previewing different pages used on each chart.
In the Classroom
Before you try any of these activities, think about how you can make the lesson more student-centered. Find ideas in TeachersFirst's Hands off, Vanna! Giving Students Control of Interactive Whiteboard Learning . Browse the site for interactive whiteboard resources to download for classroom use. Bookmark and save favorites for later use. This is the go-to site for Promethean flipchart downloads. Most files were created by teachers. The only downside is that the files are hit-or-miss. There are many gems, but you might have to browse some not-so-great files to find them.Tim, , Grades: 0 - 6
