View live webcams from around the world to see animals in a variety of settings. Over 60 webcams share the day-to-day activities of many different animals such as polar bears, owls, flying foxes, and many more. Select any webcam to view the images in full-screen. Scroll down the page to find an information box about the webcam's location and highlighted activities. Additional information shares local weather, a location map, and information about the site hosting the webcam. Registration isn't required to view the webcams; however, it allows you to save favorites and take snapshots of the screens to save on your device. The webcams are hosted through YouTube, be sure to check that your school's filters don't block them before attempting to use it with students.

In the Classroom
Bring lessons about animals to a whole new level when watching them in their natural habitat. Learn about elephants in Africa, bears in Alaska, and many more animals just through observation. Help students learn observation and research skills using webcams. Begin by sharing this site with your students and encourage them to select a webcam for their research. Another option is to focus on webcams based on geographic location or species of animals. Ask students to record notes digitally using Google Docs or Microsoft Word. Encourage students to include questions during their observations, then include links to additional information within their document. Take advantage of the snapshot feature or show students how to take a screenshot without having to register on the site. Enhance learning by asking students to annotate images using Image Annotator, reviewed here, to share observations, and include links to videos and additional information. If viewing webcams at the same time each day, use a screen recording tool like Free Screen Recorder Online, reviewed here, to record video observations for several days, then have students analyze and compare animal activity during that time. As a final project, and to extend learning, ask students to use Book Creator, reviewed here, to create a digital book about their observations that includes information from their notes, images, and video screen recordings. Events focused on an audience of four to eight-year-olds are typically held on Monday mornings, while events for students aged nine to fourteen are held twice on Thursdays. Browse the site to find upcoming events conducted in English and Spanish, focusing on conservation efforts, human history and culture, storytelling, and more. Choose any event to register to participate. Past events are available on YouTube by visiting the link at the top of the website. Use this site to view pictures of Florida in 3D. Yes, you do need 3D glasses. Use inexpensive red and blue lens glasses to view these pictures which have been altered to be more accessible to students. Most stereoscopic pictures require special viewer glasses. Follow the directions to be sure you are using the red/blue lenses correctly. View pictures of the cities and towns, landscape, military history, environment, and transportation. Looking for something in particular? Click on "Search Exploring Florida" to find a specific item.
In the Classroom
Use this site with any social studies curriculum related to Florida locations to provide a sense of scale, make measurements of items seen, provide an overview of areas being studied, and a better context for what they are studying. For earth science, view pictures of landscapes to identify geologic structures learned in class. In any curricular area, view the 3D pictures to gain perspective into the structures, environment, and lives of the people in Florida's history. If your class is studying chocolate or investigating nutrition or agriculture, look no further than this website dedicated to this delicious delicacy. Some of the unique topics include "Chocolate in the Forest" (which takes students to the Amazon rainforest), the health risks and benefits of chocolate, the history of chocolate, and many other "yummy" bits (or bites) of information. There are a couple of features that requires Real Video, however there is a lot to learn from the information that doesn't require Real Video.

An interactive "Changing Weather" feature asks for student input regarding local weather conditions, and then generates a personalized weather report. Share an animated GIF to get student's attention! A cat reading a book is one way to begin reading time! Show any science concept a student should look at several times to see every aspect of the event, better yet, let students create an animated GIF using their own pictures to demonstrate the concept or show the steps of an experiment. Do you want to reveal portions of a video outlining the travels of historical expeditions, addition of the states to the US, or any other historical event captured in a video? Once recorded, you can edit videos, add voice, add text, draw directly on the screen image, or control playback speed. Be sure to watch the video tutorial for all features. Upload finished videos directly to YouTube. Once uploaded, share using social networking links. At the time of this review, this tool was not compatible with a MAC. The website does offer some suggestions to MAC users (such as using Bootcamp). If your school blocks YouTube, you will not be able to use this site while at school.

This tool is an online Jeopardy game builder. Click support on the top right to find video tutorials to help you get started. Sign up for a free account, enter the information, and you are ready to play! Use the "create game" button and enter your title. Then, start building your game. Enter your email address so you can edit the game later. Enter your series of questions and answers under difficulty levels. It's that easy. Up to four teams or individuals can play at one time. Play the demo history game and choose one of the vegetable icons to get started. Clicking the check mark for correct will reveal the answer.

Jeopardy games are a great way to review all types of information, in any subject, with your students. As part of the review, have small groups of students take a category and create the Jeopardy game. Have students create a Jeopardy quiz for their classmates to take after they give a presentation. Ask your students to use the Fake Ticket Generator to create excitement for class presentations. Have them create tickets and hand them out to other students to use to be admitted to class for their presentation. Create tickets to hand out to students at the beginning of any unit to create interest and excitement. Make tickets to give to parents as invitation to Meet the Teacher night, Science and Book Fairs, PTO meetings, and more. Create tickets that students can earn, such as a ticket to skip a homework assignment or to have extra time at centers. Give out tickets to special events in the library/media center, such as Dress as Your Favorite Author Day. Have students create tickets to a classroom museum or science fair. Create a "fake" Facebook-style page for anyone or anything! It's a good idea to do a little planning ahead of time, then just follow the directions on the landing page. Give your page a name and add an image from your computer. (They insert an image for you if you do not select one, however, you can change the image by clicking on it and selecting one from your computer.) Of course you will need to use a Creative Commons or other copyright-safe image. You can also add videos and links, edit the profile, and your page is almost ready. You must add at least one post and one friend to save work. Under the "Friends" block, you can add blocks such as Family, Major Speeches, etc. Choose "save" from the options on top left side of the page, enter a password, and your unique URL for your Fakebook page appears. Be sure to copy and save this link as it is the only time it is given in the setup process. If you are prepared with images and links, page creation is quick and easy with a small learning curve. Share your Fakebook page with the link to your page.

Engage and create interest in classroom learning with Fakebook. Fakebook is terrific for creating interest in many subjects. Instead of a typical biographical report in social studies, students create a Fakebook page about their famous person. Write about presidents, founding fathers, famous scientists or artists, Civil War soldiers, and more. Have students create a timeline of any historical event (name the page for the event, such as World War II). Use Fakebook to outline a book, play, or film plot, then share with students while studying the material. To use Fakebook to study literature, create a page for the central character, the book's author, or the book's setting. For a unique twist in science class, create a Fakebook page for a periodic element or another science topic. Use the page to describe "the life" of that atom or element. In world language classes, have students do this activity (about themselves) in the second language they are learning. Create a Fakebook page for the first day of school to introduce yourself to students or at Open House for parents. Challenge students to create and share a page about themselves during the first week of school. Share a Fakebook page with students to demonstrate proper netiquette and social sharing. Be sure to share a rubric with students for all expectations of what should be included on their page. Make Fakebook one of the options for your gifted students doing projects beyond the regular curriculum. Choose from many options to select a voice; options include celebrities, cartoon characters, foreign language accents, and more. After choosing a voice, type your text into the box and click "Speak." Scroll down to find the results. Use the play button to listen to the results and follow the link to download the WAV file. Audio is computer-generated, so it may not be an exact duplicate of the chosen voice; however, the representations are close and are helpful for several different uses.

For example, convert a short student-written speech into an audio recording featuring a well-known politician's voice, such as Barack Obama or Franklin Roosevelt. Family Consumer Science (FCS), also sometimes referred to as Home Economics, is a subject that encompasses many topics, including food science and preparation, human development, personal finance, family finance, wellness and nutrition, apparel and sewing, interior design, and more. This curated list of reviewed resources includes all of these topics and others related to FCS. We have included resources for all grades.

Discover more about farms by watching videos and answering the questions provided by the Farm Education Conservation Camp. The shared videos are divided into topics including animals, grains, environment, and safety and equipment to provide a robust overview of farm life shared by various families. Each video comes with a brief series of questions. The videos are hosted on YouTube. If your district blocks YouTube, then they may not be viewable.
In the Classroom
Bookmark and save this site as a valuable resource for sharing real-world examples of farm life and activities with students. Engage students in learning about the different aspects of farm life using Symbaloo, reviewed here to create a webmix that includes videos from the Farm Education Conservation Camp, stories, and learning games. For example, include games found on My American Farm, reviewed here and articles from Cabot's Farm Families, reviewed here to enhance learning as part of a station rotation activity. Extend learning by creating a class book about farms and farm life using Book Creator, reviewed here. Plants with very fast growing cycles can be very useful in classroom demonstrations and lab activities. This site from the University of Wisconsin explains how to use these "fast plants" and offers a significant collection of lessons and resource ideas involving them. There are also collections of pointers for students and teachers. This site may be just the thing for teachers who have limited outdoor resources or whose climates aren't in sync with their curricula.
