Let's Learn About Bats - Angie Green
Grades
3 to 6In the Classroom
Share this site on an interactive whiteboard or projector as an introduction to a unit on bats. This site is excellent for explaining bats' ecological impacts in an attempt to show the positive side of having them in one's environment. Divide students into cooperative learning groups to explore the site, and then discuss what each group thought was the most important way that bats help their environments. A great way to do this is to have students create an online infographic to share using Visme, reviewed here. Have each group share their graphic on the interactive whiteboard as a way to review the information with the class.Add your comments below (available only to members) | Become a Member

Then have students with the same article meet together to become the expert on that topic (in cooperative learning, this is known as Jigsaw). Have each student in the Jigsaw group create an Awesome ScreenShot, reviewed here, where they can make digital notes with lines, text, or shapes. Once they form back into their original small group they can report what they learned to the other group members.Add your comments below (available only to members) | Become a Member

Images from Nasa - NASA
Grades
2 to 12In the Classroom
Use the images on this site to create a visual discovery activity in your classroom, introducing the topic of Solar Flares, or another outer space related topic. Select 3-5 images from this site, choosing the most powerful and moving images. Placing the images on individual slides, allow students 1-2 minutes to observe each image. During that time period, students should be taking notes based on what they observe, predict and infer about each image. The more powerful and detailed the image is, the more information students can take out. After the class has observed all the chosen images, have a class discussion based on the notes students took. This is a great way to introduce content in a way that engages and gets students thinking, as well as avoiding the typical lecture format.Add your comments below (available only to members) | Become a Member
