This site offers information about energy, including games and videos, for students and provides curriculum materials for teachers. Students can read and learn about the history of electricity, power safety tips, and learn about "green" power. Games include Power Bandit, a word search, crossword, and jigsaw puzzles. Beware of the Energy Vampire explains to students how to save energy, and which appliances use a lot of energy. There is a large inventory of videos showing different types of energy production plants, explaining power production through the use of coal and nuclear reactors, and the history of the TVA. Teachers, be sure to check out the teacher's section of the site which includes lesson plans and activities for elementary through high school. Engaging and colorful.

Create a scavenger hunt with questions from the students and have students explore the site to find answers. Upload a photo to the Color palette generator to view four selected colors that coordinate with the image. The generated colors include both the color name and the color code. If you are looking for ideas, try the Color palettes. Browse through the color palettes or explore by typing a theme, color, or keyword to find suggested palettes. Learn about color theory and color combinations by exploring the Color wheel. Take an in-depth look at colors in the Color Meaning portion of the site. Choose any color to learn more about the color space and conversions in different formats.

Find 24 different topics with specific books and activities to get students reading and creating. In addition to the book lists and activities, Start with a Book includes book-based summer science activities and toolkits, and guides for at-home learning. Other information on the site has tips for parents on increasing reading fluency in English, Spanish, and nine different languages. Sign up for weekly text messages that deliver updates and motivational tips.

Share this website with parents as a resource to maintain learning over the summer break. Subscribe to the weekly text messages and pass them on to parents and guardians of your students. Web Whiteboard is a free, collaborative, online whiteboard that doesn't require registration. All collaboration takes place in real-time, so there is no need to save work as you use the whiteboard. Just click the link to begin using the whiteboard tools. Share the URL with collaborators. Web Whiteboard also includes a direct link to create a whiteboard using Google Hangouts. Boards remain available for 21 days when using the free account. For more information, be sure to watch the one-minute demo for an overview of how to use this tool.
In the Classroom
Allow students to create collaborative drawings as responses to literature. They can map out the plot or themes, add labels, create character studies, and more. Share the finished products on an interactive whiteboard, projector, or your class website. Have a group of students create a drawing that another group can use as a writing prompt. Use Web Whiteboard as a brainstorming or sketching space as groups or the class share ideas for a major project or to solve a real world problem. Use this site with students in a computer lab (or on laptops) to create a drawing of the setting in a story as it is read aloud. As a creative assessment idea, have students draw out a simple cartoon with stick figures to explain a more complex process such as how a democracy works. If you are lucky enough to teach in a BYOT setting, use Web Whiteboard to demonstrate and illustrate any concept while students use the chat and drawing tools to interact in real time. If you are studying weather, have students diagram the layers of the atmosphere and what happens during a thunderstorm, for example. Introduce this tool to students who are working on group projects. Alternatively, have students use this to work as partners or as a small team to complete complex math problems or equations. Give students a problem by typing it on their board. Make it easy for peers to find all of your screen recordings by uploading them to Padlet, reviewed here. Of course, by sharing them to Padlet you also introduce a new tech tool for them to try! Instead of a one-time professional development session, consider creating an ongoing podcast using Buzzsprout, reviewed here to share new technology tools, provide advice and tips, and answer common questions. The ISTE YouTube channel provides a great starting point for learning and sharing tech tips with peers.

First choose the type of graph paper from the eight different offerings including Cartesian (the most popular) and hexagonal. Next choose paper size, measuring units (inches or millimeters), then choose the paper created from the list offered. Just print after the graph paper is created.

This phenomenal website is all about levers. The website provides information about levers and how we use them everyday. It also has an awesome interactive challenge that requires Shockwave. The interactive is a challenge to use a lever to raise one end of an obelisk three feet off the ground. There is a teacher's guide that provides a detailed lesson plan. Check it out! Be sure to look at the non-Shockwave version.

This site discusses the aftermath of the South Asia earthquake in 2011. There is an extremely thorough and detailed section that details what an earthquake is and how/why they occur. If you do not have the time to check out this entire site, at least visit the earthquake information! This site also provides pictures, web chats, quizzes, and a wealth of information. The quiz requires Flash; however, nothing else does and there is plenty to learn and discuss at this site.
In the Classroom
If you are teaching a unit on weather and earthquakes, be sure to use an interactive whiteboard or projector and utilize the awesome interactive FLASH presentation! After students have read about this earthquake, have them research the largest earthquakes in Japan and Chile and make comparisons to this one. Using map resources on this site, have students establish where this occurred in comparison to where Japan and Chile are located.
