First, upload your file or drag it onto the workspace, select a language and select the type of file to save. Options include Word, Excel, PPT, or TXT documents. When the conversion is complete, download and save the file to your device.

Bookmark and save this conversion tool for many classroom needs. Convert worksheets saved as PDFs to Word documents to edit and easily make changes. For example, many student worksheets available with textbooks are in PDF format. PDF files are the most common document type available; take advantage of this conversion site to extract information and explore different scenarios using the original formulas. Parlay Genie uses artificial intelligence to create discussion prompts for any topic or URL. Parlay Genie, a feature of Parlay, reviewed here, generates higher-order thinking questions to develop and encourage deeper thinking among students through round table discussions. Begin by selecting to create a discussion either with your topic or with a URL, choose to make between one and three questions, add the URL or subject, and choose the grade level of your students beginning with 5th grade and going up to higher education. The final step is to generate your prompts with an option to regenerate questions if desired. Registration is not required to create discussion prompts using Parlay Genie; however, creating a free account includes options for sharing discussion questions with your students through the Parlay dashboard.
In the Classroom
Use Parlay Genie to quickly generate discussion questions for whole-class or groups for any topic. Easily differentiate questions for different groups of students by developing questions for different grade levels to match student abilities. If you are not sharing discussions through Parlay, use many digital resources to share questions and gather information from students. For example, engage students in the discussion activity by asking them to share a short response using Vevox, reviewed here. Use the students' responses to generate a word cloud in Vevox to highlight common responses. Then ask students to work in groups that explore the initial responses more in-depth to extend understanding. Have each group work on a collaborative document such as Google Docs or Microsoft Word. This site discusses the aftermath of the South Asia earthquake in 2011. There is an extremely thorough and detailed section that details what an earthquake is and how/why they occur. If you do not have the time to check out this entire site, at least visit the earthquake information! This site also provides pictures, web chats, quizzes, and a wealth of information. The quiz requires Flash; however, nothing else does and there is plenty to learn and discuss at this site.
In the Classroom
If you are teaching a unit on weather and earthquakes, be sure to use an interactive whiteboard or projector and utilize the awesome interactive FLASH presentation! After students have read about this earthquake, have them research the largest earthquakes in Japan and Chile and make comparisons to this one. Using map resources on this site, have students establish where this occurred in comparison to where Japan and Chile are located. Explore the Life Lab and find why we age, characteristics of each stage of development, the science of aging, the anatomy (and images) of the brain, and how memories are made. Although this site is slightly text-heavy, there is a lot of great information that is well organized and easy to follow.
In the Classroom
In your science or health classroom, look at the functions of a system and how it works together. Use as a reference source or use as an example to adapt to your unit of study. Share this site on your interactive whiteboard or projector. Or have cooperative learning groups investigate specific sections/topics and create a multimedia presentation using one of the many TeachersFirst Edge tools reviewed here. Some tool suggestions are (click on the tool name to access the review): Adobe Creative Cloud Express for Education, Vevox, Animatron, Renderforest, and Canva Inforgraphic Maker.

Qwant is a search engine that allows you to search several forms of media at once, share easily, or create bookmarks and lists. Type in any search term to display results in columns sorted by web, news, graphs, social, and shopping. Or click to view in classic view. Click the Boards tab to browse collections by others (similar to Pinterest). Account creation isn't necessary, but it allows the option to save, tag, and organize sites into public or private lists.

Create a classroom account to create and share resources for any subject. Allow students to add information found on their own. You may want to have students cooperatively "tech out" Quant on your projector or interactive whiteboard so they know how to use all its features. Bookmark Qwant on classroom computers as an alternative search engine to the one you already use. Imagine automatically creating a video from a written description. That's a fantastic prospect, and it is now possible using the magic of Invideo AI. invideo AI turns your ideas into videos in just a few short minutes. After creating an account, select the link to make a video. In the chat space, describe in detail and provide instructions for completing the video using up to 3600 characters. After adding the description, choose the button to generate the video and wait for the magic to happen. Creating videos will take a few minutes. Once your video is generated, use the available tools to regenerate if changes are desired, or choose to export the video when ready. Download the video to your device in mp4 format and select from the available options for video quality. Share videos with students from your device, using the provided link, or export videos to YouTube, reviewed here. Free accounts offer ten minutes per week of video generation, 10 GB of storage, and four exports weekly with the invideo logo. If unsure what the controversy is all about, or possibly to validate your own opinion, become more knowledgeable about climate change and causes by watching these videos. Offered in seven segments, this content replicates a longer video by the same name, making for easier viewing and understanding. Develop an informed opinion about this highly controversial issue. These videos are hosted on YouTube. If your district blocks YouTube, they may not be viewable.

Watch the series of videos as a class or assign them for homework, in a flipped classroom strategy. If using the flipped classroom strategy, use a program like Vibby, reviewed here, where you can embed questions at certain points in the video. This website, produced by the Martha's Vineyard Museum, tells the story of Laura Jernegan and the journal she kept on her voyage on a whaling ship. In October 1868, Laura Jernegan, a 6 year old girl from Edgartown, Massachusetts set out on a three year whaling voyage. Laura, her father, mother, brother and the ship's crew set off to the whaling grounds of the Pacific Ocean. The site also tells the adventurous history of whaling. Choose from many different topics for exploration such as information about whales, a timeline of whaling, interactive map, and explore the ship. Dive deeper to view artifacts, meet the crew, and view a picture gallery. Lesson plans (and complete units) are provided for grades 1-3, 4-5, and even high school.
