This interactive graphic organizer helps students develop an outline for one of three types of comparison essays: whole-to-whole, similarities-to-differences, or point-to-point. A link in the introduction to the "Comparison and Contrast Guide" gives students the chance to get definitions and look at examples before they begin working. The tool offers multiple ways to navigate information, including a graphic on the right to move around the map without having to work in a linear fashion. The finished map can be saved, e-mailed, or printed. There are many additional interactives and lesson plans (with standards included!).
In the Classroom
Use this site to introduce comparisons to your students on your interactive whiteboard or projector. After demonstrating how to use the site, create a link on classroom computers for students to make their own comparisons to be printed and shared. Divide students into 3 groups - one for each type of comparison essay - and have them create comparisons for their type, then share and compare with other students. Change student learning by having them create "annotated pictures" to illustrate the different types of comparisons using Annotely, reviewed here. Use this site with gifted students as a way for them to explore subjects more deeply than discussed in class. Conker.ai is an online platform that can help teachers create online quizzes for students of all grades. Teachers can easily customize quizzes based on the topic, the number of questions, and the difficulty level. Questions can be multiple-choice, fill-in-the-blank, or a combination of both. Quizzes can be completed online using an access code or exported to a Google form. First, you must create an account with Google, which requires you to give access to your Google Drive.
In the Classroom
Teachers can input relevant topics or subjects for their students, select a suitable grade level, and specify the number of questions needed. Many different output languages make this an excellent resource for world language teachers. For example, enter a short reading passage of up to 1,200 words and generate questions from the selection in just a few minutes! The State of Connecticut offers this informative site just for kids loaded with information and facts in an easy to use format. Follow links on the home page to learn about Connecticut history, state symbols, and the state government. Follow the Connecticut government link to take a pictorial tour of the state capitol filled with facts and history of the building. Other links lead to puzzles and games such as picture puzzles of Connecticut symbols such as the state flower and bird, word searches with state words, and coloring pages with everything from aquariums to zoos. The puzzles and games still use Flash, but the information on the rest of the site is worth your student's time.
In the Classroom
Have students create a simple online posters using PicLits, reviewed here, as an alternative to a traditional written report of the state. Click Our Programs in the upper right corner to find he classroom section icalled Teach It, which ncludes lesson plans, as well as a series of very well done "journeys" that describe the industries and people that have had an effect on Connecticut history. Many of these are suitable for use in other states.

This is a nicely done animated site about the history of Minnesota for elementary students. It concentrates on major industries of the state as the basis for a portrayal of life in Minnesota in the late 1800s. the illustrations and stories have a sort of "comic book" feel, but the information is well designed and well presented. Students in other states will find this a nice introduction to nineteenth century life on the prairie.

Use this site as an introductor or activator on a lesson concerning Westward Expansion. Introduce the site on the Interactive whiteboard or projector, before allowing students to explore the site in pairs. Find interactive vocabulary activities using Constitution-related vocabulary words. You will also find printable crosswords, fill in the blanks and more, all using the same theme words. This and other "themes" available on the site will make vocabulary development fun.
In the Classroom
Have students work in cooperative learning groups, divide up the vocabulary words, and have each group find the definitions for their assigned vocabulary words. Have the groups share their words and definitions in an online book, using a tool such as Bookemon, reviewed here. Have the groups share the online books on your interactive whiteboard or projector. In spite of the endless verbiage on the home page, this site has many options for topics ranging from the United States Constitution and Amendments to the Supreme Court.
Each topic has an overview, sub-topics, and then quizzes to test your knowledge. Select Constitution Day 2023 and find a poster contest, treasure hunts, and crossword puzzles!
On some of the surveys and quizzes it may prompt you for an age and state but it's optional. You can just click the link to see the results and bypass the personal information. Most of this site is designed for older elementary students (and above). However, some of the Constitution Day activities may be useful in the K-2 classrooms.
In the Classroom
This is a great site for both introducing and reinforcing topics about the Constitution. Teachers can print out crosswords puzzles for a "What Do I Know" activity. Students could find out which founding father they are in the interactive portion (under IQ Challenges) and create a multimedia project on the result. Challenge students to use Image Annotator, reviewed here. Image Annotator site allows you to add text and links to a picture. Challenge students to find a photo (legally permitted to be reproduced), and then narrate the photo. What a new twist to an oral report! Students could create a Photostory on their own version of the Story of Fourth of July. The possibilities are endless. For fun, teachers can present the Real or Fake Quiz on the projector or interactive whiteboard as whole class instruction or have discussions after each answer.

It can also detect and classify harmful content, such as hate speech, violence, and pornography. Content at Scale is powered by a large language model, which allows it to learn and adapt to new content types and formats. It is trained via a massive dataset of labeled content, allowing for a higher level of accuracy.

Educators can use Content at Scale to check student work for AI-written content with the AI detector tool. The AI checker gives you a percentage likelihood that the content is either written by AI or a human. As the title states, this site converts PDF documents to Excel documents. Upload a file of any size from your computer, Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive without having to create an account. Files remain on the site's server for six hours before being automatically deleted. Once converted, all information imports into an Excel file, and any tables in the original document become fully editable and formatted. The conversion speed depends on the file's size and server speed; our practice document was ready to use within a minute.
In the Classroom
Keep this site handy to use in a variety of situations. For example, many student worksheets available with textbooks are in PDF format. PDF files are the most common type of document available, take advantage of this conversion site to extract information and explore different scenarios using the original formulas. Science teachers can take lab activities and refine questions or add instructions as needed for their classroom. Save student grades in a PDF document and then convert to Excel to understand individual assignments' impact on the overall grade.

Cool Earth is an organization that works to protect the Rainforest from deforestation and prevent climate change. The site is a valuable resource for information about the Rainforest. There is a variety of ways for schools to participate. The site contains valuable information useful for research projects, short videos, galleries full of rainforest imagery, submit questions, and read blog entries written by visitors currently in the Amazon. Cool Earth also explains ways to cut carbon emissions. Scroll to the bottom menu to Learning and Resources to find activities for your classroom. Be aware: this site also includes some items for sale. You may want to advise students to steer clear of these links.

Visit Cool Kid Facts to find information for just about anything in this world or even out of this world! Select from Geography, History, Science, Animals, and Human Body. There are also topics in the right menu on the home page that range from Albert Einstein to Volcanoes and nearly everything else you can think of (alphabetically) in between. There are articles, videos, pictures, and quizzes, too. The videos are from various outside sources and are hosted on YouTube. If your district blocks YouTube, they may not be viewable.

Share this site with students on your interactive whiteboard (or projector) and show them all the different subjects available. Challenge students to find a topic about which they know nothing (or barely anything). This site will give them experience reading informational text on a topic they wonder about. Partner weaker readers with others who may be able to help them read the text-heavier articles. Have students read and research individually or in small groups taking notes using a simple graphic organizer from Holt Interactive Graphic Organizers, reviewed here. Use this opportunity to teach summarizing, and citing sources. Use the site's filters to search for lessons by content and grade level or sort by newest first to find the most recent additions to the collection. Each lesson is correlated to Common Core Standards and includes attachments with supplemental materials when indicated as part of lesson activities.
