Take a tour of your closet to find out where your clothes come from. Discover the concept of interdependence and the extent of our global footprints. Research where raw materials come from and how clothes are made. Consider the implications of manufacturing and transportation to get them to your closet. This interactive includes informative videos complete with transcript. You can save your place within the interactive by "getting a code" that you re-enter on return.
In the Classroom
When discussing the Food and Fiber system (materials used to produce food and the many products we use daily), use this site to gather initial information of where their items come from. As products are no longer made closer to our actual lives, many students are disconnected from the materials and processes used to create everyday products and are unaware of their global footprint. Students can continue research by investigating other items used daily to determine what they are made from, where they are manufactured, etc. Continue this process with the foods that they eat to show how many popular foods are very removed from the whole foods that we should be eating. In geography classes, have students use a reviewed geo/mapping tool from the TeachersFirst Edge to map the path across the globe from raw materials to finished products, just to make one pair of jeans. Twinkl provides elementary curriculum resources in all subjects, including many based upon international standards. Although much of the site includes content that requires a paid membership, Twinkl includes many valuable free resources. Use the search bar to find free resources by grade level or content area, including activity booklets, teaching packets, posters, and more. Save favorite resources within your Twinkl account for later use. Use the links at the bottom of the home page to find additional free tools such as Twinkl Create. Twinkl Create is an interactive that includes templates that guide you by creating personalized banners, word mats, flyers, and much more.
In the Classroom
Bookmark Twinkl for use throughout the year to find teaching resources for holidays, content topics, and homework ideas. Take advantage of Twinkl Create to easily make and differentiate charts, banners, word mats, and other classroom use printables. When saving favorite materials found on the site, set the popup reminder to remind you to use it later in the year. For example, when you find the End of Year packet, save it to your account and set a reminder for late spring so that it can be included with other items to include when wrapping up the school year or sending home materials for practice over the summer. Twinkl includes free teaching packets by grade level; these packets include activities customized for different ability levels. Use items from teaching packets as part of your center activities or send them home for additional practice as needed. After downloading materials, make your lessons digital using Kami, reviewed here. Use the free version of Kami to upload documents and add highlights, text, comments, and shapes before sharing with students.

Teaching Children Philosophy offers a large list of favorite children's books to use when discussing philosophical ideas with students. Choose from the alphabetical book list or select from topics including ethics, the mind, and more. Each book's suggestions include a summary of the plot, discussion guidelines, and philosophical discussion questions.
In the Classroom
Although created using children's books, this site is perfect for introducing philosophical discussions to students of any age. Choose two books that represent different sides of an issue to share with your class. Create a mind map including different ideas represented within topics using a tool such as Mindmeister, reviewed here. Then have students create an annotated image demonstrating their viewpoint including text boxes and related links using a tool such as Google Drawings, reviewed here. Generate any image you can describe with text using the online image generator from Canva, reviewed here. Canva employs three tools (apps) to generate images - Magic Media, Dall-E by Open AI, and Imagen by Google Cloud. Begin by selecting the link to generate images, then select the tool of your choice. Magic Media is built into Canva's design tools and is accessible when creating a design. Dall-E generates realistic images and art; Imagen turns text into photorealistic images. Use Dall-E or Imagen in an existing design or create a new one. After selecting an app, add a text description of the image to generate, including as much detail as possible. Continue revising your text until you are satisfied with the image, then add filters, effects, or other elements available from Canva's library to complete your image. Follow the directions to add your image to your Canva library, include it in a presentation, or share it directly with any supported platforms.
In the Classroom
Use Canva's image generator for any number of classroom uses to encourage creativity and bring any idea to life instantly! Teach students to use descriptive language in writing to bring characters and settings to life. Generate images of historical characters to help students visualize historical events or places. In science class, ask students to generate images of systems or molecules to represent abstract concepts. Include AI-created images when using webpage makers such as Carrd, reviewed here, newsletters, or videos created with online applications such as Clipchamp, reviewed here. Share a link to this site on your class webpage for parents to share with their children. Include this game on classroom computers for use during computer center time. Instead of creating separate links for different games, use a bookmarking tool like Symbaloo, reviewed here, to organize and share games easily. Symbaloo is perfect for use with younger students because it includes icons for links, which makes it easy to organize content by topic and easy for non-readers to find links. Ask students to brainstorm a list of words they see and hear in advertisements, then use those words to create a word cloud using Wordsift, reviewed here, to point out and discuss common words used to entice children. Extend learning for older students by asking them to to create their own advertisement for their favorite cereal or toy using a comic creation tool like ToonyTool, reviewed here. These very realistic photographs use artificial intelligence to apply predetermined motions to facial features that provide an animated experience not possible with still photos. Upload your photo and follow the directions to create an account and save your image. Free accounts include a limited number of uploads.
In the Classroom
Use Deep Nostalgia Photos to upload and animate images of historical figures to use with multimedia projects. Include animated images in student-created projects created with Adobe Creative Cloud Express for Education, reviewed here. Share images as a schema activator when introducing a new unit; for example, find a free Creative Commons image for Harriet Tubman and use it to create an animated image when introducing a unit on the Underground Railroad. Create a word search in a few easy steps. You can choose the size of the puzzle (10 x 10 to 100 x 100) as well as how many words the puzzle contains. You can also choose the highlight color, background color, font size and "word management." Word management allows you the choice of words being forward and backward, diagonal, up and down, and more. Options allow for the puzzle to be played online or printed out.
In the Classroom
Use this resource to help students review spelling words or other content related vocabulary. Change the font to a larger size and print it out for young children or students that have vision issues. Have students create word searches for other students to take. Zight (formerly known as CloudApp) is a screen recording tool with features for collaboration and integration with other cloud-based tools. After downloading Zight, follow the directions to install and use it on your device. Use the included tools to trim and cut videos or create GIFs. When finished, save and generate a link to your clipboard. Other features include the ability to do real-time annotations while you are recording your screen and editing tools to trim and cut recordings. Zight integrates with Slack, Microsoft Teams, and others. Free accounts offer one user up to twenty-five items with ninety-second recording times.
In the Classroom
Download and use Zight in many ways in all classrooms. Make screen recordings to share how-to information on navigating websites. Use the annotation tools to highlight important information and the location of website tools. Have students use Zight to share their screens when facing difficulty using sites. Create collections of videos for students to access, including instructions for logging in to various websites, searching effectively, or sharing information digitally.
